Elsa Schiaparelli Fall 2016 Couture

Elsa Schiaparelli had a circus theme for Fall 2016. It was almost as if the fashion designer’s archive had been thrown open and never-before-seen designs were brought back to life for lovers of couture to enjoy: there were astrological signatures on translucent evening gowns, and Picasso on a bustier in a patchwork-design, which was very befitting of Elsa’s love for art in the past. The discipline in the craftsmanship was certainly noticeable, because it all steered in a structured-direction but it wasn’t more than the great sophisticated edge the collection fronted: black and midnight blue was amongst over-hyped shoulders, cocktail dressing in asymmetric shapes, circus animals, a vibrant peacock, beads and sequins on lush velvet, evening gowns cut from draped liquid silk, lamé, jacquard, dreamlike jewelry for pocket flaps, lapels of a blazer which seem to cut through fashion tailoring working in one particular unstoppable direction, and clothes perfectly smelling like Hollywood.
