Miranda Kerr is a Victoria’s Secret Angel, one of the original, and the first Australian model to be so. Apart from modelling, she has also released her very own line of organic beauty cosmetics, such as that from KORA Organics, and a self-help book titled Treasure Yourself.
A staunch believer in the power of yoga and spiritual healing, she meditates everyday, and likes to talk to her friends, to keep herself grounded amongst all of her sudden success. As the former wife of Australian movie star, Orlando Bloom, she was surrounded by negative controversy for some time, when their marriage fell apart but controversies doesn’t seem to be something that can have their hold on Miranda (or her career) for too long.
Amidst a childhood spent racing around with motorbikes and riding horses on her grandmother’s farm, when Miranda started modelling, she was only 13 years old. At that age, there was no pressure on Miranda to appear a certain way, or look a certain way, unlike now of course.
After winning a contest to model for Dolly magazine, she had her first taste of controversy, when it flocked to her about how the beauty of young girls was being promoted in the fashion industry. Kerr has commented on the incident as one, where “a mountain gets made out of a molehill” because she posed for a magazine suitable for teenage girls, in a winter-shoot and that there was nothing indecent about the photoshoot at all. Might I add, that choosing a young teenager to pose for a fashion campaign, is not representative of “young beauty”, it is merely responding to the needs of a particular fashion campaign.
Her first real break came after modelling for Billabong, where her exposure increased in both the Australian and the Asian markets, following which she started to model clothes for the runway. Soon, numerous fashion contracts followed, such as that for Levi’s, Neiman Marcus and Roberto Cavalli.
Miranda then appeared on the Project Runway show in early 2006, modelling the clothes of one of the finalists on the show (she was the first woman on the catwalk, for the show) and then soon her success with Victoria’s Secret started, where she replaced the former star, Brazilian model, Gisele Bündchen, and joined the ranks of Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio.
