Eva Longoria is the very definition of a certain kind of Latina beauty. Petite, bronze skin, jet-black hair, she has a degree in kinesiology and Chicano Studies (for which she wrote a thesis on the importance of Latinas in STEM subjects), and represented her hometown of Corpus Christi in a beauty pageant in 1998.
A talent contest spotting paved her way into Hollywood, post-college, and she began to have numerous guest appearances, in mix of daytime and popular shows such as 90210 and General Hospital, before finding her big break in The Young and the Restless as Isabelle Brana, for three long years.
Stardom found her however, as Gabrielle Solis in the comedy-drama from ABC: Desperate Housewives. The series is about four housewives, whose life begins to take mysterious turns, with the death of a longtime friend (and neighbour) in the pictureperfect postcard town of Wisteria Lane.
Longoria does not count her success to have been sudden because she had after all been working on it for so long. The role in Desperate Housewives gave her a Golden Globe nomination, for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, alongside her co-stars. Considered to be a sex-symbol, an unconventional one, because she is thin-framed and 1.57m tall, she is one actress you should watch out for, this fall.
