Chile fashion designer Maria Cornejo incorporated her new-found love for New York, where she’s based in her latest collection. There was an element of Los Angeles in the fashion iffering for SS2013 at Pier 57 too.
But what was really striking about the collection were the crop circles. Prints used were mostly scuba fabric, jacquard and neoprene in colours of navy, grey and other soft shades.
Layered clothing, drapes and coveted cocoon-shapes were prominent in the fashion line, as was capes, skirts, sundresses crafted from perforated designs and knits fronting nets. The tailoring was well-fitted luxuurywear, especially for tube skirts and corsets were very form-fitting.
Maria commented on the collection,
“I wanted to make it feel luxe in my own way.”
A macramé bandeau paired with a shrug, and a skirt was reflective of fast fashion on the designer’s part, while abstracts added that charming factor to the prints and the leather seprates in duck egg blue – a very popular colour this season!
Prints were really all the rage here, particularly the woodblock print, complimented by the cropped leather bolero that was worn with it. Pantsuits, totes, airy dresses of Italian embroidery – no matter where you look, this was versatility rocking it on the catwalk!
